Introduced for 2005, the CRF450X was the enduro offshoot of the CRF450R motocrosser, reworked rather than simply detuned. It gained an electric starter (needing wider crankcases), a wide-ratio five-speed gearbox, extra flywheel weight and midrange-biased tuning, an 18-inch rear wheel, a softer-flexing aluminium frame, lighting, a sidestand and a larger tank. It was soon a Baja 1000 winner and, in Australia, could even be road-registered.
